While Deacon has military training, we also have to remember that Joel has been in the LoU apocalypse for 20+ years. Deacon has been in the DG apocalypse for only about 2 years. Joel has more experience and is a lot bigger than Deacon. So I think Joel would win. I also think Joel could survive in the DG apocalypse.
